Awesome UpgradeAlways the first upgrade I do when purchasing a new bass. With a simple flick of a lever you can quickly change between standard and drop tunings. I have guitars set up in standard, E flat and full step down tunings and all hold their tuning equally well using the BT7.The Hipshot tuners have a good build quality and install easily using the existing mounting holes of the stock tuning machines. I've found that once you get the standard/drop tunings set they tend to stay in tune very well despite extended use. I typically spot check my tuning every chance I get during a show and rarely find the need to fine tune the BT7.I took me a little while to get used to moving the level out of my playing area when using the BT7 in the dropped position. I'm guessing that is more of a flaw in my playing style than the design of the BT7. Now it's a non-issue as I simply make sure it's pushed forward when engaged.5Looks good and works good!Fits like a glove on my 95 MIM Jazz. Took about 5 minutes to install. Beautiful finish. Works great! Read the directions so you know how to use it! Really useful in certain keys.5Disappointed so farThe product doesn't seem to work. It said that Bt7 would fit my made in Mexico precision bass. It seems to fit but when I pulled the lever it does not detune as it is supposed to. I followed the directions carefully. I have installed them on other basses in the past. I emailed hipshot company to see if it is the right model number that I need. Haven't heard anything back.3so this was the perfect replacement, being that you really can't find a ...I had a key clover leaf snap off and eventually lost it, so this was the perfect replacement, being that you really can't find a "good" tuning key unless you buy a set. Very happy with this bass tuner key. It allows me to play a little lower when needed for a song. Doesn't alter the intonation too much and holds the string pitch as well as the other strings. Takes a little to get used to tuning, but once you get the process down it isn't too much to manage.5Missing screws and instructions plus it's NOT ChromeI have Hipshot xtenders on all my 4 string basses and have used them for 20+ years so I know them well. As far as the design and functionality of the product, it's fantastic. To the seller: There's a difference between chrome and nickel plating. This is advertised as chrome (the seller's label on the box even says chrome) but it is in fact nickel (the factory sticker on the same box says so). After some research I find that Hipshot doesn't offer a chrome version which is odd since most MIM basses have chrome tuners and I was hoping for a perfect match. Oh well. But please label the product correctly!Secondly, I received mine without the countersunk head mounting screws or the installation instructions sheet. The pan head screws from the stock tuner will absolutely not work. So I'm off to the hardware store.I've installed a few dozen of these over the years so to me its no big deal but if you've never done it before, make sure you have all the parts and the instruction sheet before you even begin.3Fender Mustang PJ No Bueno !No Bueno, Does not fit Mexican made Mustang Bass. need to drill the holes up to 11/16"4Great addition to my bass.Installed this on my 05 MIM Fender P project bass. When I first ordered the plate was not drilled out correctly. Hipshot handled that no problem and once I got the new plate, this thing is perfect. This past weekend I was able to drop D for 1 bridge right in the middle of a song. I quickly popped it back up to E and nobody in the band even noticed the change. Quick and simple.5I never knew how much I needed this until I got it!So I have been playing bass for about 15 years on and off. The past 6 years have been pretty steady playing and in the past 6 months I have gotten involved in 3 different groups i order to be giging as much as possible.I have done original composition for most of my 15 years on bass, but now i find myself playing just about everything as long as it keeps me playing and keeps me smiling.Anyway, the more different projecs you get involved with the more tunings and variables there are. For my original stuff, on or two songs in Drop D or C in a gig was no problem to just retune between songs the old fashioned way. But now I dont have to do that anymore and I am no longer concerned about arranging a set list for tuning convenience. All it takes is the flip of a switch and you go from Standard to Dropped tuning and then back again with another flip. This device is very easy to install and it took me less than 5 minted to get it out of the package and on the bass, included putting the strings on. (I have done my own setups for years and am no stranger to working on instruments)Even someone with little or no experience only needs a screwdriver, a wrench and maybe 10-15 minutes.Tuning takes a bit more time on the Low E now because you must tune to pitch, then open and close the switch, (much like if you were tuning a vibrato bridge) recheck tuning. repeat until the notes rests to pitch after the switch is opened and closed.Once the tuning of the E (or whatever your tuning to) is achieved, you then tune the not the tuner "Drops" to by adjusting a stop acre on the rear side of the machine. Turn it clockwise to go sharper and counterclockwise to go flatter. takes a little fildding to get it jut right. The instructions are well written and easy to follow so anyone can do it with a good tuner and some patience. Once you done it once, you can do it on the fly again no problem. This does make stretching your strings a bit more critical than if you were to use a standard tuning machine, but I think at most this may take and extra 2-3 minutes for my restringing and tuning a bass from scratch. Its good practice to always stretch your strings, and this device will remind you why:)You will definitely need to verify your tuning after your bass has been in a gig bag or case (you always should anyway) because the rear tuning adjuster is easy to get slightly turned during transit.Yesterday I had a 7 hrs of rehearsal and only had went from E standard to Drop D I dont know how may times and was always ready to got and waiting on other band members. This is a great way to ease a little bit of the hassle and restrictions involved with playing in 3 or 4 bands at once or just playing songs in different tunings without even having to glance at your tuner in between.Basically, I LOVE this thing and I cant believe it took me 15 years to get one.I will be putting them on my other 4 stringers soon.5WORKS WONDERS! NEAR PERFECT FIT FOR SIRE BASSOnly had to drill two new holes for Xtender Key to fit on my bass. Feels like I bought it that way and sounds incredible!!!LOVE IT!5Nickel plated not chrome. It is nickel not chrome other than that it is exactly as stated. Installed on mim Franken fender p bass no major modifications needed and slapped it in a few minutes. I may be the only person who notices it's not chrome like the other 3, so 4 stars because it's not perfect.4
