The MIG-21 is a simple, robust aircraft developed to serve as a high-speed heavily armed supersonic fighter interceptor for the Soviet Air Force. The small, economical MIG-21 also proved to be a popular export that was sold to many Soviet allies in the 1960s and 1970s. Even today, this small, rugged airplane continues to serve in some national air forces.
