Customer Reviews

Feels expensiveExcellent punch I received it really fast which is always a good start, by the time I received your email, I had already made half a dozen picks Saturday night. So I like the shipping and right off the bat you can feel the solidly built heaviness. It was a tiny bit pricy but for quality it's a trade off I'm happy to make. What a great way to make cheap and meaningful gifts for my guitar friends and family. I'll surely download the PDF and take a look at it. I figure If I can get the sanding down, I can make this item pay for itself, and then some. Once I get it down, I'll post some on instagram. Thanks again for a 'pro musician quality product' William hackerman5Awesome!Despite some negative reviews, this pick-puncher turned out to be awesome. At first I was a bit skeptical on how it would work. But I must say, it's a neat accessory to have if you're a guitar player. There's nothing worse than not being able to find a pick. The pick material itself is quite suitable as well. I'm obsessed now...looking for old credit cards and gift cards to make picks out of. I mean, sure, some of the picks may come out with jagged and rough edges; but for the most part, a fair majority of the picks turned out flawlessly. I would highly recommend it.5TERRIFIC PRODUCTI purchased this as a Christmas gift for my brother. He has played the guitar for approx. 40 years and was always misplacing his pics. Thru out the year, I saved all the gift cards that I had used (no money value) for this purpose. On Christmas day, he was given 2 packages. He opened the first with quite a few used gift cards. I explained that not one of the cards had any value, but that he could practice on them. He smiled and said thank you as he is quite the gentleman. He opened his second gift with the pick-a-palooza. Again he smiled, said thank you and commented he didn't know he needed a stapler but will use it. I told him to READ the box! As he read the box, his eyes widened and he said, NO WAY!! He quickly opened and inspected his gift. He totally ignored the rest of his gifts, grabbed the used gift cards and started on his journey! After using up all the cards, he looked at his wife and said, mum do you have any old Tupperware? She shook her head and told him to stay out of the kitchen! So many laughs and the sheer delight of him loving his present! If I could give it 10 stars I would!!!!5"WOW""WOW" ! have been making picks the last couple of days myself and use them to play guitar instead of my Dunlop picks and they are just as good and fun to make.... making it rewarding to "punch" them on my own. This is a neat pick maker and not expensive to add to my hobby arsenal! Thank you for a great product equipt4 !!!! I give this a 5 out of 5 star rating!Terry5More fun than playing the guitar?Well, for me it is -- my wife is the musician. But we are both having a ball punching picks out of every piece of plastic we can find! This is a heavy, well made product and could not be simpler to use. The picks are usually perfect right out of the punch. Occasionally, a little touch up with an emery board is all it takes.Truly an impressive -- and fun -- product and well worth the price.5Oh, JUST SO AMAZINGLY CLEVERFirst of all, what fun. I have collected through the years a stack of plastic hotel room keys WITH THE IDEA that I could turn them into guitar picks. Like with scissors. Anyway, I saw this, immediately ordered.FACTS:1) works exactly as described2) hotel keys better than credit cards. Hotel keys are GREAT picks. Credit cards seem to have an annoying laminate layer.3) edges can be only very slightly rough, but rub on cloth (like denim) to smooth, if you're fussy.4) use upside down with rubber 'catch tray' removed SO YOU CAN see how best to position the material for maximum pick yield from hotel key.5) you can produce (maximum) 5 picks from a single hotel room key or credit card.6) I produced enough picks to last the rest of my life.7) I plan to continue producing picks because it's fun. Looking for more (cheap) material. Out of hotel keys. I'll end up with thousands of picks.5Excellent invention.Credit cards, phone cards and gift cards are typically .75mm thick. The plastic strips that come with this unit are between .7 and .73mm. My ideal (acoustic) guitar pick is a Dunop Tortex .55mm. For $25 I can buy about 150 guitar picks. My problem is that the nicest picks seem to have legs: 'Hey man, you got one of those nice picks I could use?" "Sure. Here's a new variety. Try this one." So, my thought is to create hundreds of cheap picks and make a point of leaving them laying around everywhere for everybody else to steal. LOL Except for guitar weinies like me, very few can tell the difference between a .55 and a .70 guitar pick anyway. This punch is very well built. . .and you can feel it. Other punches will certainly do the job but I know this one will last a long time. The picks WILL require some sanding. And, I don't think there's a pick punch out there that doesn't leave rough edges.I'd like to see a variety of these plastic strips offered in various thicknesses.Just for grins I cut some picks out of that clear clam-shell packing stuff we see on calculators, fishing reels, capos, etc. That stuff is about .41mm and the punch does work on that material but there's a bit more edging/sanding required. That said, .41 mmm is not a bad strumming pick for a guitar or autoharp.5Pick-makerI'm not too generous with given 5 stars. Don't want companies to think I just hand them out. Work for it!This item, heavier than your standard hole-punch, punches out standard size guitar picks, you can run up big bucks buying. Play an instrument requiring a pick, guitar, mandolin, dulcimer? Know someone who does? Makes an excellent gift.Design your own, will punch-out light to heavy gauge picks. Use it at fairs to punch out commemoratives. Recycle water & soda bottles, I'm including pic of pick made with 1 of the included plastic sheets and my own made from a sprite bottle on which I glued part of the sprite label. That pick is slightly curved from the curve of the bottle, but I have seen curved picks. You can probably find how to flatten "warped" plastic, a hot stove can cause bottle to shrivel, used under weight may flatten it. Children, ask for adult supervision. (That's my safety notice)But the natural curve may serve the purpose. There are less expensive pick punches, but I picked this one.The picks made are standard size, as seen in picture.3 on top are mfr picks and two on bottom are ones I "punched" one on right from incl. sheet they send, on left a sprite bottle with glued on sprite label.5Enjoyable and entertaining at minimum! This honestly, is just fun. I question the utility of the materials I can make picks from, but I haven't had enough time yet to see how different items wear and hold up to use. The other thing I worry about is damaging this through experimentation with materials. Not because there's not enough metal or anything like that, just because at this price point I do not expect the product to hold up to manufacturing standards. Best material so far? Old optical media. Cds, DVDs, Blu Ray - it's hell getting one pressed, and easy to fracture the material in the process. But polycarbonate plastic is pretty tough stuff, and the materials properties make it look cool as hell. Besides, it's an easy argument that it's better to reuse as much of old media as possible vs. dumping it in the trash. Most useless but most entertaining pick so far? Cut the roll from the interior of toilet tissue so it can be laid flat, and punch a pick. Very simple and there's quite a bit of material to work with. Does it work for a stringed instrument? Being thin cardboard, not so much. But it makes an awesome Butt Pick. Great fun to hand out to friends.4A great gift for the guitarist in your life! Get crafty before you play! My oldest son plays guitar and saw the Pick-a-Palooza while looking around Amazon for things that he wanted to put on his Christmas wish list. He seemed very excited about being able to make his own guitar picks for himself and his musically inclined friends. The Pick-a-Palooza is very similar to a heavy grade hole punch except that it goes through vinyl and pops out guitar picks. The guitar pick punch can also be used on thicker papers and thinner vinyls. My Son has used the Pick-a-Palooza on playing cards and then laminated them. They look pretty cool! You do not have to use the plastic/vinyl that comes with the Pick-a-Palooza, if you put your imagination to good use you could use a lot of different plastic items or just order more refills from the Pick-a-Palooza company. The kit also comes with a file to make any rough edges go away and a case to hold picks.I paid full price for this item. I was given no discount or promises of future discounts. I am providing this review for anyone considering the purchase of the Pick-a-Palooza DIY Guitar Pick Punch. All opinions, experiences, and video's are my own. Thank you!5
