From the Manufacturer

The VW Schwimmwagen (literally Floating / Swimming Car) were amphibious four-wheel drive off-roaders, used extensively by the German Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS during the Second World War. The Kleines Kettenkraftrad HK 101 or Kettenkrad for short, started its life as a light tractor for airborne troops. Part motorcycle, part half-track it was used extensively on the Eastern front.
